Lotus 34 by johnwickart Lotus 34 by johnwickart
1964 Lotus Indy car.
24x14" piece of paper.
Prisma Colors on watercolor paper.
Jim Clark put this car on the pole but his race was short with tire troubles.
This car has an offset suspension which was used by some for about 5 years in the 60's at Indianapolis because of the loads on the outside tires.

Just nice to see this again. IIRC, the USAC Silver Crown cars use this type of chassis stagger even today as well as least some of the NASCAR race cars as well, particularly the Featherlight modifieds.

Always nice to hear from you. Yes, when I was 10 years old in 1965, I built a plastic model of Jim Clark's winning Lotus. Until that time I wasn't aware of what they were doing with the offset suspension.

I think the Lotus 38 might be one of the all-time most modeled car, especially for slot car racing. :)

Dad built three up for 1/24 slot car racing in period. The test car used Heinz Happy Soup labels as part of the livery. :D

That... dates me, I think. No one remembers Happy Soup. I may have starved as a child if not for Happy Soup.

The most infamous one of them, well... ummm... Rat Fink even liked the car....

The Osterero Brothers in Switzerland sell absolutely drop dead ones now, for whatever reason these guys LOVE Indy cars... but ... well 210 Euros...!?!?!? GAH!

Great one, man! Although it seems you're making those shades and drop shadows too dark and flat. They could use more texture, strokes or tone in there.
